South Boston, MA Twelve walk-up row house duplexes are carved out of their hard-edged South Boston setting. We articulated the monolithic form—which fills out the block and is built to the property line—with rhythmic fenestration and textural contrasts. This cost-effective project features cast stone at the base and is clad in fiber cement board, metal panels, and cedar. Solar canopies and a playful roofline allowed us to deploy light and shadow as equally important materials. Daylight-drenched interiors feature double-height spaces and honey bamboo floors, giving the residences a timeless modernity.
