Red House
Cambridge, MA This house was designed with its edge condition in mind. Inspired by New England's red-painted covered bridges, it faces a busy road but is also sited adjacent to Fresh Pond Reservation with the Boston skyline beyond. A linear second story spans a garage and the living/dining volume, creating a view corridor between the two. The saw-tooth windows on the roof funnel north light and nod to area mill buildings. Solar panels and a European window wall system help make the house nearly net zero energy consumption.
